Tottenham Hotspur’s board has decided to sack manager Ange Postecoglou at the end of the current season, except in one case.
The Spurs board has set a clear goal for this season: securing Champions League qualification next season.
Reaching the Champions League directly from the Premier League is now impossible, as the London club is in 14th place with 34 points, 14 points off the top European spot with only nine Premier League matches remaining.
The only way Tottenham can qualify for the Champions League is by winning the Europa League, and Spurs will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals next week.
If Tottenham exits the competition, Ange Postecoglou will be sacked, despite his widespread fan appreciation and support.
The Tottenham board has begun exploring other options to lead Tottenham, with Andoni Iraola at the top of the list following his remarkable success with Bournemouth this season.
The list also includes several successful Premier League coaches, such as Fulham’s Marco Silva and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
