Two Names Considered to Lead Al Ahly to Replace Koller

Egyptian media reported that Al Ahly’s management is in negotiations with two names to replace Marcel Koller.

The Swiss coach’s dismissal is now a matter of time after Al Ahly’s exit from the CAF Champions League semi-finals at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns at Cairo International Stadium.

Al Ahly is considering former Egypt national team coach Carlos Queiroz as its first choice to succeed Koller.

Media journalist Ibrahim Fayek revealed that Mohamed Shawky, Al Ahly’s deputy sporting director, is in contact with Queiroz and is trying to convince him to coach the team until the 2025 Club World Cup.

Shawky previously worked as Queiroz’s assistant coach in the Egyptian national team, and their relationship is strong. He is counting on this to attract him to coach Al Ahly, his first club coaching assignment since 2004.

The second name on Al Ahly’s list is former Zamalek coach Jose Gomez, who is currently coaching Saudi club Al Fateh.

Signing the Portuguese coach immediately may be extremely difficult, given his contract with Al-Fateh and the fierce competition his team faces to remain in the Saudi league.
