UEFA has announced its Team of the Tournament for Euro 2024, as selected by its experts. The team includes some surprises, particularly in one position.
The first surprise is the inclusion of Mike Maignan in goal ahead of Unai Simon of Spain, who performed well, and Jordan Pickford of England, who was outstanding in various matches.
The biggest surprise, however, is the selection of Kyle Walker at right-back ahead of the highly impressive Dani Carvajal, who is still being touted for the Ballon d’Or.
There are no players from England or Spain in central defense, with UEFA opting for the Frenchman William Saliba and, in the most surprising choice, Manuel Akanji of Switzerland, despite the excellent performances of John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Jules Koundé and others.
There are no major surprises in midfield, with the inclusion of the in-form Spanish trio of Dani Olmo, Fabián Ruiz and Rodri. In attack, UEFA has chosen Jamal Musiala alongside Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
