Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Barcelona administration decided to renew Sergi Roberto’s contract for another year at the request of coach Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi announced his decision to leave at the end of the season and continue in his position until the end of his contract in the summer of 2025, and it seems that the management quickly decided to implement all his requests.
One of the requests that Xavi stuck to in recent months was the need to keep Roberto as the team’s captain and highly regarded in the locker room.
It is assumed that negotiations will begin between Barcelona and Roberto during the next few days, and it is not expected that they will witness any obstacles, including that the player himself will receive the wage he currently receives.
The Spanish media have indicated that Xavi wants to change many players in the summer, but Sergi Roberto is very important as a mainstay and does not intend to give him up at all costs.
It is noteworthy that Roberto, 32 years old, has been playing with Barcelona since 2013, and during that period he played 368 matches in all tournaments and achieved many titles, most notably the hat-trick in 2015.
