Liverpool legend Graeme Souness considered that Virgil van Dijk might leave the Reds and move to Real Madrid with Jurgen Klopp’s departure from the English club at the end of the current season.
The Dutch player’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of next season, and so far, contract renewal discussions have not taken place between the two parties.
Real Madrid is looking for a centre-back next summer, and although the Royal Club wants to include a young player and has its sights set on Lille defender Lenny Euro, Souness believes that Van Dijk may be an option at the Merengue table.
Souness said in media statements, “I am very concerned that the end of Van Dijk’s contract is approaching.”
He also added, “He will turn thirty-three next July, and if his agent contacts the sporting director of Real Madrid, they will sign him immediately.”
He concluded, “It seems clear that he is not happy in Liverpool now. Look at his behavior. If Arne Slott wants to succeed, he must win him over.”
