Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf made controversial statements to justify Rodri winning the Ballon d’Or and not Vinicius Junior.
Until Monday morning, all indications were that Vinicius would win the award, before everyone was surprised that Rodri was the winner, and Real Madrid decided to boycott the ceremony held in the French capital, Paris.
While Seedorf was attending the ceremony, he was asked about who deserved the Ballon d’Or, and he did not hesitate to choose Vinicius.
As for the reason for not crowning the Brazilian, Seedorf said, “I think that the problems between Real Madrid and the European Union should have been completely removed from the award.”
He concluded, “Vinicius was the most deserving of winning the award, but it seems that these crises intervened and deprived him of a well-deserved title, it is truly a shame.”
Seedorf is referring to the famous disputes between Real Madrid and UEFA due to Florentino Perez’s administration’s desire to launch the European Super League competition, which UEFA considers the biggest threat to football recently.
