Many questions have been raised about who will wear the number 10 shirt for Argentina during the current international break, given the injuries to Lionel Messi and Paulo Dybala.
Argentina ruled Messi out of the Uruguay and Brazil matches due to muscle discomfort, followed by Dybala’s absence due to a torn hamstring muscle that will require surgery.
According to Argentine media, coach Lionel Scaloni has chosen Atletico Madrid star Angel Correa to wear the number 10 shirt in the absence of Messi and Dybala.
This is the second time Correa has worn the number 10 shirt for Argentina; the first was in 2023 when Messi missed the World Cup qualifier against Bolivia.
Correa’s international record may not be great, having made only 25 appearances for Argentina and scored three goals, but his outstanding current season with Atletico Madrid is what prompted Scaloni to grant him the privilege of wearing the number 10 shirt of his country’s legends.
The 30-year-old has played 39 matches for Los Rojiblancos in all competitions this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists.
