AS reported that Jose Mourinho has asked his club Fenerbahce’s management to sign Ilkay Gundogan this summer.
Although the German international’s contract is still valid with Barcelona until the summer of 2025, the Catalan club is not opposed to selling any player currently to solve the financial crisis.
Gundogan is at the top of Mourinho’s list of players he wants to strengthen the midfield, and it is said that negotiations between Fenerbahce and the player of Turkish origin have already begun.
According to AS, the Turkish club’s management has contacted Gundogan’s agent, his brother Ilhan, directly to explore the possibility of him joining Fenerbahce in the remaining days of the transfer market.
Initially, 33-year-old Gundogan’s desire is to stay with Barcelona and not leave, but Barcelona’s financial situation may push the club to ask the player to leave.
The problem with Fenerbahce’s option is that the Turkish club will not be able to pay the amount requested by Barcelona, so a transfer to an Arab country would be the ideal option for the Catalans.
Gundogan had received an offer from Al-Sadd in Qatar but rejected it, and it is expected that if Barcelona’s desire to sell him is confirmed, Saudi Arabian clubs will enter the race strongly.
