AS newspaper considered Erling Haaland to be the biggest loser from Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid, as the chances of the Norwegian arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in the near future have greatly diminished.
Haaland’s contract with Manchester City allows him to leave starting in the summer of 2024 in exchange for a release clause within the reach of major clubs, but outside the Premier League.
At one point, Real Madrid’s management reached out to Haaland’s environment to explore the possibility of contracting with him, and the player’s camp welcomed this step very clearly.
According to AS, it has become unlikely to include Haaland to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025 because of Mbappe. From a financial standpoint, the Royal Club will most likely not succeed in paying another salary like the Frenchman’s to the Manchester City striker.
At the same time, Haaland reserves 100% of the image rights for himself, which is something that the Real Madrid administration absolutely rejects. The exception only happened with Mbappe and he was granted only 80% of the image rights.
The newspaper, which is close to Real Madrid, did not close the door on the 23-year-old joining Real Madrid, but it considered it too far away unless something new happened over the course of the next season.
In the same context, Manchester City will soon begin work on renewing Haaland’s contract, taking advantage of the player’s frustration with Real Madrid’s recent position and inclusion of Mbappe, during which an attempt will be made to end the idea of the penalty clause to ensure that he continues for the longest possible period of time at the Etihad Stadium.
Perhaps the “AS” report increases the hypothesis raised earlier by Catalan newspapers that Barcelona may tempt Haaland to join its ranks to compete with Kylian Mbappe, as was the case between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the last two decades.
