Will the Spanish Super Cup be held in Iraq?

The visit of La Liga President Javier Tebas to Iraq raised some news about the possibility that Mesopotamia will host the Spanish Super Cup in the future.

The Spanish Football Federation signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia in 2019 to hold the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia for 3 years, and then the agreement was renewed to continue the competition in the Kingdom until 2030.

In recent days, new negotiations have begun to renew the agreement until 2034, and with Tebas’s visit to Iraq, it was said that the destination of the Super Cup may change from Saudi Arabia to Iraq in the future.

However, according to Iraqi media, this news is not true, and in fact Tebas’s visit was for the sake of the La Liga project there and its development, in implementation of the cooperation agreement concluded between the association and the Iraqi Football Association.

It is likely that the Spanish Super Cup will continue in Saudi Arabia until 2034, as there are no completely competitive offers, given that Saudi Arabia pays 40 million euros annually to the Spanish Federation and the participants in the competition.

It is noteworthy that the last edition of the Spanish Super Cup ended with Barcelona winning the title in Jeddah after defeating Real Madrid 5-2 at the Jewel Stadium.
