UEFA announced that it will not take any action against Paris Saint-Germain and its fans after the controversy surrounding the raising of the “Free Palestine” banner at the Parc des Princes stadium before the Atletico Madrid match in the Champions League.
The French club’s fans had supported the Palestinian and Lebanese cause with a huge tifo that read “War on the field, but peace on the field.”
Because of this tifo, the French Interior Minister was furious and considered it to be inconsistent with the rules of the European Football Association and an introduction of politics into the world of football, and demanded that action be taken against PSG.
However, “UEFA”, after several inquiries, responded to these allegations and confirmed that it will not punish Paris Saint-Germain.
An official statement by UEFA stated that the raised banner cannot be considered provocative or insulting in this particular case, and accordingly, no investigation will be opened into the matter.
Paris Saint-Germain had previously issued an official statement claiming that it was not aware of this tifo before it was raised, in order to avoid any penalties or being held responsible.
