Manchester United interim manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy has welcomed the opportunity to continue as assistant coach following the appointment of Ruben Amorim.
Van Nistelrooy has been assistant to sacked manager Erik ten Hag since last summer and is currently in charge of United until Amorim arrives from Sporting Lisbon on November 11.
Asked about the possibility of returning to the role but with Amorim, the Dutchman replied: “I am here to help.”
He added: “Manchester United is the only club where I would agree to be an assistant coach. I have to say that I have really enjoyed this role.”
He concluded: “I have committed myself to the role set for me as assistant coach and it is a great honor for me.”
United have yet to announce Van Nistelrooy’s fate, although the English club have already paid Sporting Lisbon €5 million to transfer Amorim’s assistants to work with him at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy led United in one match against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, which they won 5-2, and will lead the team in three more matches against Chelsea and Leicester in the Premier League and PAOK in the Europa League, before Amorim takes over.
Van Nistelrooy took over PSV Eindhoven for one year from 2022 to 2023 in his only experience as a coach, during which he won the Dutch Cup and the Dutch Super Cup.
