The newspaper “Bild” reported that Florian Wirtz is about to renew his contract with Bayer Leverkusen for an additional year until the summer of 2028.
The German international’s current contract at the BayArena extends until the summer of 2027, but the Leverkusen management decided to increase the player’s salary to convince him to stay longer.
Wirtz was expected to leave in the summer of 2025, but with the renewal step, he will stay at least after the end of the 2026 World Cup.
According to the source, Wirtz agreed with Leverkusen on the presence of a penalty clause in his contract, which can be activated starting in 2026, allowing him to move to any club he wants.
The value of the penalty clause is 125 million euros, which is within reach of many clubs interested in signing him.
The 22-year-old is of particular interest to Manchester City, as well as Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich have also announced, through their honorary president Uli Hoeness, their strong desire to sign the player.
