Florian Wirtz has decided to continue with his team Bayer Leverkusen for another year, according to the German newspaper “Kicker”.
Wirtz’s contract with his club extends until the summer of 2027, and all indications were that he was about to leave for a giant club in the summer of 2025.
However, the latest report confirmed that Wirtz is about to renew his contract with Leverkusen for another year, to remain at the Bay Arena until the summer of 2028.
The 21-year-old’s plan is currently to continue with Leverkusen for another season, then leave for a big club after the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be held in America, Mexico and Canada.
Leverkusen refused to comment on this news when Sky Sports contacted them to find out the truth.
Wirtz is one of the most prominent players in the world in recent years, and has been the focus of attention of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in particular.
Real Madrid wanted Wirtz to be the successor to Luka Modric, who is expected to leave at the end of the current season, while Bayern Munich was willing to pay a lot to sign the “German jewel”.
There is no doubt that Wirtz’s decision to continue for another year with Leverkusen is very shocking, not only for Real Madrid and Bayern, but for everyone in the world of football, considering that the player seems ready for a bigger step that will benefit him both athletically and economically.
