Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez and Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola shared the opinion that Real Madrid is not a lucky team, and that luck in general does not exist in the world of football.
Xavi’s statements came in the press conference held on Saturday evening, hours before the start of the Real Madrid-Barcelona match scheduled for Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
When Xavi was asked about Real Madrid’s luck after beating Manchester City on penalties in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, he replied, “They won because they were excellent and played a good match.”
He also added, “I don’t believe much in luck in football. I only believe in work and in the team and not in the idea of coincidence. In the last 3 years, Real Madrid has eliminated the best team in the world twice. This is not a coincidence.”
As for the Merengue’s defensive approach against City, he replied, “They faced the best team in the world and had to defend and they did it well. The team must always master various situations, and Real Madrid knows how to do that well.”
Regarding El Clásico, he replied, “We are very motivated to win the match. We were affected by the loss in the Champions League, but now we are very motivated to win the league.”
It is noteworthy that Real Madrid leads the Spanish League standings, 8 points behind Barcelona, with only 7 rounds remaining until the end of the competition.
