Xavi Hernandez revealed that money was never the reason behind his decision to leave Barcelona, while he felt great confidence from President Joan Laporta and his entourage.
In the press conference during which it was announced that the coach would continue until the summer of 2025, Xavi said, “Everyone knows what place this club has in my heart. I felt the confidence of the club, the board of directors and the players.”
He also added, “This project is not finished yet. We need to continue working hard. This is why I changed my decision within a few minutes.”
He continued, “Money? I did not continue here because of that. This is incorrect talk. This offends me a lot, and I do not accept this talk.”
When asked about the changes that might occur to the technical staff, he answered with a clear statement, “Everyone will remain in their positions without change. I did not ask for any change and I do not know where these rumors come from.”
He concluded, “The important thing is that I will continue and stay until the end of next season, no matter what happens. I see and feel the management’s confidence, which increases my enthusiasm a lot.”
It is noteworthy that Xavi failed to lead Barcelona to any title this season, while last season he won the Super Cup and the Spanish League.
