Nabil Emad “Dunga”, Mostafa Shalaby and Zamalek’s football director Abdel Wahed El-Sayed were referred to trial in the UAE on charges of assaulting a policeman.
The crisis began when the trio were stopped at Al Nahyan Stadium on charges of assaulting a security officer during the Pyramids match on Sunday.
The trio headed to one of the Abu Dhabi police stations on Monday, where they were detained after the policeman rejected the idea of reconciliation, pending presentation to the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution.
In the meantime, a fine of 600 thousand Emirati dirhams was imposed on the trio, and the Zamalek management actually paid it, but it was not enough to get them out of prison.
Investigations began again on Tuesday evening, and the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution decided to refer the trio to urgent trial, with the first session scheduled for Wednesday.
According to Egyptian media, despite everything that happened, Zamalek will play against Al-Ahly in the Egyptian Super Cup on Thursday.
It is noteworthy that the official spokesman for Zamalek Club, Ahmed Salem, said that the club is considering withdrawing due to intransigence and pressures, but later, the treasurer, Hossam El-Mandouh, confirmed that the club will play the derby.
